The GPA is making every effort to ensure the Port of Savannah keeps pace with the growing demands of world trade through aggressive and innovative capital improvements on terminal. Outside its terminals, the GPA is working closely with federal and state agencies toward the approval of the proposed deepening of the Savannah River by up to six feet. This will allow the Port of Savannah to more efficiently accommodate larger cargo and vessel types calling the U.S. East Coast today, the frequency of which will grow exponentially once the Panama Canal’s expansion project reaches completion in 2014.
The Final General Reevaluation Report and Environmental Impact Statement are scheduled for release to the public for comment fall 2011.
