Savannah, GA – May 12, 2008 – The Port of Savannah will be the site of three major maritime events the first week of June 2008, and will attract hundreds of the world’s leading trade professionals.

The first event will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the GPA and Suez Canal Authority on June 2. Promoting all-water services between Asia, India Sub-continent, the Middle East and the U.S. East Coast, the Suez Canal Authority and the GPA will sign an MOU in the afternoon. The GPA will also renew an MOU with the Panama Canal Authority, extending this relationship. Media representatives may attend this presentation by contacting GPA’s Director of External Affairs Robert Morris (see below).

The second event will commemorate the launch of an E-tag cargo tracking program in use by the GPA and the Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) on June 3. With the use of an RFID technology system, the GPA and the SIPG will track cargo movement through the ports in real time. The “E-tag” cargo management system will track a container from its point of origin to its final destination. Media representatives interested in attending the presentation and press conference at the Savannah Hyatt may contact Robert Morris (see below).

The third event is the fourth annual East Coast Maritime Conference on June 3 through 5, 2008. Delegates from around the world will convene in Savannah for the fourth annual East Coast Maritime Conference. Sessions will focus on challenges in today’s changing global market, as shifts are being made in export versus import cargo and the expanding regions of sourcing from Asia are changing the dynamics in global logistics. The conference, organized by the Journal of Commerce and hosted by the GPA, will feature informative sessions and networking opportunities.
