Scheduled for completion in Summer 2007, the Brunswick Harbor deepening project will take the channel depth from 30 feet (9.1 meters) at MLW to 36 feet (11 meters) at MLW. A tidal range of 7.6 feet (2.3 meters) twice daily provides for a net sailing draft of up to 41 feet.

The newly completed Highway 17 overpass allows for unimpeded road and rail access to the north and south sides of Colonel's Island, making available 900 acres (364.2 hectares) for future development.
